I have been making grilled pizza for years, if you have never had it, you have missed out one one of the best things ever. I mean, let's face it, think about how much better a burger or dog is (even veggie burger or soy dog) on the grill...the smoky enlivens the flavors and, when it comes to pizza, caramelizes the crust in a way you just can't achieve outside of a wood burning pizza oven. Bring Italy home. This gives you all the steps, the how-tos, and even the basics on sauces and toppings from caramelized onions to crema drizzles. All the techniques are broken down so even the novice is an expert after a few mere pages.

Because I'd been making grilled pizza for about 10 years, I wasn't sure how the cookbook would play out for me but this was fantastic! It's so well done--not only a visual delight, but it's a big cookbook with over 200 pages, great tips, loads of pictures. You can put aside the burgers and steak and really wow your family and dinner parties!

You can do things your kids will love like a cheeseburger pizza, to a dish you can make in minutes to wow a dinner party, like marinated gulf shrimp, roasted red pepper, and mozzarella, or an appetizer like grilled asparagus, sweet onion, and goat cheese pizza...Pair these with a pasta or just do several different kinds of pizza and you will be a hit!

There are drizzles to take your pizzas up a notch too in the back of the book that you will likely use on all kinds of appetizers but are sure to impress on the pizzas, like avocado crema, or pickled jalapeno crema. Use these on the flatbread recipes as well, as the book is full of them.

I make my pizza dough in the break maker or buy fresh dough at the restaurant supply store at which I'm a member but you can make it easily by hand or in a mixer as well. Look for recipes online. If you make them a lot, a breakmaker is well worth it, even if you pick one up at Goodwill. Kind of mindless pizza dough--dump in the measured ingredients and it kneads and mixes and lets it rise for you then beeps when done.

This is a very small sampling but you can see there is something for everyone--and something for every meal you are planning. If you just want to serve an appetizer before you go out to dinner, if you want to plan a 5 course pizza dinner party, if you want to grill a pizza beside the steaks you are grilling for guests as the side dish that gets more raves than the standard baked potato, if you want to serve up things vegetarians can eat at the party same as those who are not, you got it.

We did a pizza-off one night with neighbors where everyone made up their own pizza recipe and we cooked in teams and voted on the winner. These are done so fast that it makes it a snap! Cooks way faster than oven pizza too1

The photos are all professionally done and make you want to light up the coals and dig in--or, at minimum, lick the pages.

Great gift idea for any king or queen of the grill too.

While this has you lay the dough right on the grates, you can use a thick pizza stone on the grill too. Just heat it up prior to using; you don't want to put dough on non-pre-heated stone as it defeats the purpose.

And you will want a metal spit likely (the huge spatula looking piece that you can get under the pizza--although I did them for years without one. Silicone grill mitts will work to turn them too just not as easily.

We love grilled pizza in this house - it tastes great and you don't have to heat up your kitchen. The dough recipe is very simple & it turned out crispy & toothsome - delicious. Since this was a weeknight, we used the gas grill. Delpha gives instructions for doing this on gas & charcoal.

The first pizza we made was the "Duck Confit, Black Fig, Blue Cheese & Balsamic" pizza. I know, fancy shmancy! But we had a couple confit duck legs in our freezer (thank you Costco!) & we were looking for another way to use them. We used dried mission figs that I sliced & then soaked in hot water for 10 minutes just to soften them. This was a wonderful pizza. It would have cost a small fortune at a wood-fired pizza place. Next time we will do the whole sauce reduction version - it sounds delicious.

I mixed up a batch of the "Basic Tomato Sauce" & the "Pizza Cheese Blend" for the "Anything But Basic" pizza. It was excellent. The parsley was an interesting change for basil.

This cookbook really expands the idea of pizza with so many different toppings & even dessert pizza. The instructions are easy to follow & you can make the dough & toppings ahead for a quick weeknight dinner. And you don't have to use the dough recipe. He mentions buying pizza dough as an option.
